Mission Statement
The goals of the Greater Lafayette Holocaust Remembrance Committee, initiated by Rabbi Gedalyah Engel and the Mayors of Lafayette and West Lafayette in 1981, are to continue awareness of the Nazis' War against the Jews from 1933-1945, to honor the victims and survivors of the Holocaust, and to promote individual, community, and media responsibility for combating the forces of prejudice, hatred, and discrimination today.
GLHRC Statement on the Syrian Refugee Crisis
The GLHRC is concerned not only with matters pertaining to the persecution of the Jews and other victims before, during, and after the Holocaust, but also with monitoring and raising awareness of critical current humanitarian issues. The refugee crisis today is at a scale unseen since the end of the Second World War. We are providing links here to an overview of the crisis on the website of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum (USHMM) and to the September 9th statement by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) calling on the international community to fulfill its obligations as signatories of the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights and subsequent declarations.
