CONFRONTING TERROR March 29, 2003

Join us for The Greater Lafayette Holocaust Remembrance Committee's 22nd Annual Greater Lafayette Holocaust Remembrance Conference, "Confronting Terror in the 21st Century," Saturday, March 29, 2003, in Mathews Hall 210 Auditorium, Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN.

The topic has special meaning for Americans and the world since the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in New York City, Pennsylvania, and at the Pentagon in Washington, DC.

You are invitated to participate in a weekend of events with all lectures free and open to the public. In addition, there is a Saturday, Hebrew National Deli SUPPER at Hillel, for which there will be a charge. ($5/person, $3 students) Join us for any or all activities. The conference, brings together high school and college students, faculty, and community. It is supported by local businesses and you. Your contribution helps fund this Conference.

Purdue President Martin Jischke will open the Conference on Saturday, March 29 at 1:00 PM. Peter Hayes, chair of Holocaust Studies at Northwestern University, will discuss "The Future of the Holocaust." Jin Xu, daughter of recently released Chinese Political Prisoner Xu Wenli, will translate for her father, exiled to the USA. A student panel, moderated by Professor Gordon Mork, head of Purdue's Department of History, will respond to the speakers. Saturday night, March 29 at 8:00 PM, Mayors, Dave Heath & Sonya Margerum, will share their special Proclamation, followed by a memorial-tribute to Holocaust Victims and September 11, 2001 casualties. Journalist-author, Ruth Gruber, will describe "From Holocaust to Haven." Workshop reports and Resolutions will follow.
